Description
Wentworth Forge at Building Yard is a blacksmith's workshop built in the early to mid-19th century for the Wentworth Estate. The structure is made of dressed sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a rectangular plan and is a single-storey building with three bays.
The workshop has a boarded door located to the left of the center, which has a plain lintel directly beneath the eaves. To the left of the door, there is a 16-pane sash window, and to the right, there are boarded garage doors set under a flat arch. The roof is hipped and includes a rooflight. On the left side, there is a boarded door flanked by renewed casement windows, with the lintels shaped as voussoirs. To the right, there are two cast-iron doors leading to a narrow vertical cavity, and a blind window is situated to the right of these doors. The left end features a rebuilt stack.
Inside, the workshop contains a double hearth at the rear. There is a narrow cavity on the left side, which is fire-brick lined and originally backed onto another hearth; it was likely used for expanding iron wheel rims before fitting. This forge is part of the estate workshop complex, while the timber outbuildings on the right side are not of special interest.
