Description

This is a multi-purpose farm building dating from the 18th century, constructed of hand-moulded brick with some surviving timber-framing in the rear wall, and covered by a slate roof with a dentil eaves course. The main range faces the farmyard to the south, incorporating a shippon (cow stall) on the left and a stable on the right. Original openings feature segmental heads. The shippon has an inserted boarded door and another original split-boarded door to its right, positioned under a relieving arch. To the right of the stable are three split-boarded doors and three windows. The loft above contains two diamond-pattern vent holes over the shippon, two pitching eyes (roof lights), and a loading door over the stable. To the right of this is a lower, later cart shed built inline and projecting forward, with three pairs of full-height boarded doors across its front.

The gable end of the shippon has a blocked doorway, diamond-pattern vent holes, and a loft door. The rear of the main range is timber-framed on a brick plinth, with brick nogging, though part of the framing has collapsed and been rebuilt in brick. A low-gabled projection stands at the west end, behind the shippon.

A lower, former piggery is set at right angles to the left end of the shippon. It has altered and blocked openings, including a pair of full-height double doors, and a room at the left end that previously housed boiling pans for swill, accessed via a doorway in the gable end. The rear of the piggery, facing the rear of the main house, was formerly open at ground level for troughs but has been infilled, retaining broad sliding windows.

The interior features timber-framed partitions and tie-beam trusses.
