Description
Higher Lanes Bank Farmhouse is a large T-shaped farmhouse dating from the 19th century. It features a 1½-storey main range and a taller 2½-storey wing, constructed from hand-moulded brick with a tile roof and brick stacks. The openings have brick segmental heads, and the windows are primarily wooden casements or small-pane iron-frame windows with opening lights. The entrance is located on the south side, away from the yard.
On the left end of the main range, there is an open lean-to porch supported by a dwarf wall and a timber post, featuring a half-glazed panel door. To the right of the porch are a 3-light and a 2-light casement window. Above the entrance, there is a 2-light window, and in the center, a timber-framed gabled dormer with a 2-light casement window. The gable end of the wing slightly projects forward on the left side of the main range and includes 3-light casement windows and a similar 2-light attic window, above which is a stone tablet inscribed 'PWG 1876'.
The left side wall of the wing has small-pane iron-frame windows on both storeys, with a 2-light casement window on the lower right and a central 2-light window in a timber-framed dormer. The right gable end of the main house also features small iron-frame windows, including two in the attic and one lower left. At the rear of the main house, there is a lean-to with a corrugated-iron roof, which includes a boarded door and overlight at each end, along with a 3-light central window. Above the lean-to, three small windows are positioned under the eaves of the main house. The rear gable end of the wing has small-pane iron-frame windows on the lower left and upper right, as well as two later steel-framed casement windows in the attic, set in original openings.
