Description
The gates and railings opposite Doric Lodge were built in the early 19th century for the Wentworth estate. They feature an ashlar sandstone plinth and end piers, with iron railings and gates. The structure is set in a gentle curve opposite the entrance to Wentworth Park at Doric Lodge. The plinth wall supports round bars, some of which have forked bases, and there are spiked finials above a plain top rail. There are four square-sectioned gate piers, each adorned with an openwork frame of vertical and diagonal bars, and upswept apexes with finials. The central gates and fixed side panels match this style, and the railings terminate at monolithic, corniced piers.
