Description

18 The Green is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from deeply-coursed limestone and features a pantile roof. The building has two storeys with attics and two windows on the first floor. On the left side, there are large, chamfered quoins. A small stone porch with a bead-moulded ashlar surround, shaped kneelers, and gable copings leads to the entrance, flanked by 20th-century four-light casements in altered openings. There is a first-floor band beneath the two similar windows. The roof has a truncated end stack on the right and a ridge stack to the left of the door.

To the front right, there is a projecting wing (No 18A) that is not of special interest. At the rear, there is a small outshut on the left with two double-chamfered, mullioned windows; the lower window has had its mullion removed, and the upper window is blocked. An inserted casement on the right is beneath a large double-chamfered surround, now fitted with a two-light casement. The right return of the building has the best-preserved elevation, showcasing several double-chamfered mullioned windows with dripstones. This includes an intact two-light window beneath a chamfered plinth, an intact four-light window on the ground floor, a three-light window above without mullions, and a small chamfered light in the attic. There are also two inserted casements on the left, one of which has a square-faced surround. The interior has not been inspected.
