Description
The barn adjoining the west end of Moat Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, dressed sandstone and features a pantile roof with stone slate eaves courses in part. The barn has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with a partial attic, comprising a five-bay barn with a one-bay return on the right that connects to Moat Farmhouse, which is not of special interest.
The east front of the barn showcases large quoins and a quoined doorway with a plain lintel positioned to the right of centre. To the right of this doorway, there is a casement window beneath a segmental arch, while to the left, there are two similar arches over slit vents, a blocked quoined doorway that has been converted into a window, and another casement beneath a segmented arch. On the first floor, there are five segmental arches, each above a pair of slit vents.
The inner return of the wing on the front right features two round-arched openings with a square central pier on the right. There are also 20th-century external steps leading up to a door in an ashlar surround, accompanied by a two-light, square-faced mullioned window on the right. An attic window with a ledge and pigeon holes is located beneath a casement. The wing on the right is adorned with shaped kneelers and gable coping. This barn is included for its group value with the adjacent farmhouse.
