WICKERSLEY MORTHEN ROAD (east side) No 5 (Wickersley Hall) (formerly listed as Wickersley Hall)

House. Early C19. Coursed dressed sandstone, C20 cement-tile roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays with additional bay set back on left; entrance in left return of main range. Plinth. Alternately projecting ashlar quoins. Central sash has projecting stone sill and alternately projecting quoined surround with double keystone to flat arch; similar flanking windows have plain jambs. Bold inscription 'COPELAND COTTAGE' beneath 1st-floor windows as outer bays of ground floor. Deep eaves projection to hipped roof with later brick end stack on left. Bay set back on left has large casement with glazing bars with projecting sill and plain lintel; 16-pane sash over. Left return: 6-panel door under overlight with decorative glazing bars. Ionic columned stone porch with pulvinated frieze and modillioned cornice. Interior: original C19 staircase with slender square balusters and wreathed handrail. Attached house known as No 1, Moss Close not of special interest.
