Description

Wickersley Hall is a house dating from the early 19th century, constructed of coursed dressed sandstone with a 20th-century cement-tile roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with an additional bay set back on the left side. The entrance is located in the left return of the main range. It features a plinth and alternately projecting ashlar quoins.

The central sash window has a projecting stone sill and a quoined surround with a double keystone above a flat arch. The flanking windows are similar, with plain jambs. There is a bold inscription reading 'COPELAND COTTAGE' beneath the first-floor windows in the outer bays of the ground floor. The hipped roof has a deep eaves projection and a later brick stack on the left side. The set-back bay on the left includes a large casement window with glazing bars, a projecting sill, and a plain lintel, with a 16-pane sash window above it.

On the left return, there is a six-panel door with an overlight featuring decorative glazing bars. The entrance is framed by an Ionic columned stone porch, which has a pulvinated frieze and a modillioned cornice. Inside, the house retains its original 19th-century staircase, characterized by slender square balusters and a wreathed handrail. An attached house known as No 1, Moss Close is noted but is not of special interest.
