Description

Whitfield Cottage is a house located on Cayton Main Street, dating from the late 18th century but with earlier origins. The building has been altered and extended over time. It is constructed of coursed sandstone and features an interlocking natural clay pantile roof with a rebuilt brick stack. The cottage is two stories high and has a four-window front. There is a 20th-century recessed door to the left of the center. To the left of the door, there is one tripartite sash window, and to the right, there are two similar sash windows. On the first floor, there are four windows that match those below, all featuring stone sills and keyed lintels. The gables are coped and have moulded kneelers, with a stack located at the right end of the building.
