Description

Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1665, with alterations and extensions in 1747. It was originally built for Bryan and Ellis Beswick and subsequently altered by Robert Beswick. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone, with whitewashed walls and a pantile roof, featuring rebuilt brick stacks. The design follows a central staircase plan, with one room deep, and includes a rear outshut, likely formed from a former outbuilding later incorporated into the house. The front facade is two stories high with a three-window arrangement. A half-glazed and panelled door is located to the right of centre, set within a 20th-century trellised doorcase. The ground floor has square-paned casement windows with keyed lintels, and an enlarged firewindow to the left of centre, which is a three-light casement with a heavy plain lintel. Similar windows are present on the first floor. A re-set, round-headed datestone, recessed within an architrave above the doorway, is inscribed with the date 1665. A second datestone below bears the inscription “RB 1747 B B E.” The rear of the building is single-storied with a catslide roof, and has stacks at each end and to the left of centre.
