Description
Wickersley Old Hall is a house dating from the early 18th century, with an addition from the 19th century and later alterations. The house is built of coursed, squared sandstone with a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys and an attic, with four windows on the first floor, and has a double-depth plan with a wing extending to the rear right. Large quoins are a prominent feature. The central entrance has a French window within a renewed, rusticated surround. Two windows on the left have been enlarged and feature transomed casements. A two-storey bay window on the right interrupts the first-floor band and contains a five-light casement on each floor. The first-floor windows of the first three bays on the left are aligned with the ground floor. A band runs beneath the parapet, with moulded copings rising as a gable over the central three bays, featuring a blind, architraved oculus. The roof has two spans. Ashlar gable copings are present, along with renewed brick end stacks. On the left return, a tall stair window is set within a square-faced surround, similar to the surround of a former two-light mullioned window on the left, and to two single-light attic windows in the uncoped left gable. The right return features a two-storey porch at the junction of the gables; it has a chamfered, quoined door surround with a band continued in relief on the lintel, and a single-light window above. Further details include shaped kneelers and gable copings.
