Description

A ha-ha, gates, gate piers, and perimeter wall, likely dating from the early 19th century. The ha-ha sits at the front of Morthen Hall and features a retaining wall approximately 16 metres in height, with rounded copings. The wall rises to low, rusticated gate piers topped with pyramidal caps at each end; these support double gates with scrolled lower panels. The walls continue around the garden, linking with taller walls that have ball finials at their junction, although one finial is missing. The taller walls curve to connect with the wings of Morthen Hall, thereby enclosing the front garden. The features are included in the listing due to their contribution to the group value of the property.
