Description
The ha-ha and garden walling, attached to and extending about 40 meters west of Nether Hall, were constructed around 1875 for Edward Greene MP. This structure is part of the landscaping of Nether Hall and features garden walling at two main levels. The wall is made of flushed flint rubble with red brick dressings. The upper level stands approximately 1.5 meters high and consists of nine bays between piers. There are two wide flights of limestone steps located between bays four and five, and seven and eight from the north. Each bay includes a sunk panel of flint, and each pier is topped with a gadrooned vase on a limestone plinth.
At the south end, the wall returns eastwards for a short distance, while at the north end, it returns twice and connects to a higher section of plain brick walling that links to the house. An arm at the north end connects with the western ha-ha, which has a similar design featuring open balustrading between piers adorned with terracotta floral panels. The balusters are closely set and made of moulded brick. In the center, there is a semi-circular section with a radius of about 10 meters that projects westwards. The wall continues at the north end to include a pair of gatepiers at the entrance drive and a short section that returns to the stable block.
