Description
Avenue Cottage, formerly part of Nether Hall Farmhouse, is a 17th-century building that has been divided into two homes. It was restored and refaced in the late 19th century, possibly by the architect Philip Webb. The cottage has two storeys and attics, with an L-shaped plan. It features a timber-framed structure that is plastered and rendered, topped with plaintiled roofs. The main east-west range displays mock timbering similar to that found on the facade of the Nether Hall outbuildings. A prominent feature is the two-storey porch, which is jettied and gabled. The windows include mullion-and-transom designs, with three and four lights, and there are two gabled dormers. The north-south range has an internal chimney stack with a plain shaft and a lobby entrance, following a three-cell plan. The ground storey has four small-paned sashes in flush frames, while the upper storey features three narrower windows and three gabled dormers. There is also a flat-roofed porch.
