Description

6A South Parade is a house, now used as offices, built around 1860-1870 in the Gothic Revival style. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys plus attics and is arranged in three bays. The central hallway plan includes a central six-panelled door beneath an arched overlight, which is set in a segmental arched doorcase with shafts that are topped by foliage capitals. Above the doorcase is a hoodmould with foliage stops.

On either side of the entrance are canted stone bay windows, each containing plate glass sashes in shouldered segmental arched surrounds supported by pilasters with foliage capitals. Below the sashes are panelled recesses, and there is a moulded cornice with a blocking course at the top. Above the bay windows are paired plate glass sashes set beneath Caernavon arches, which are framed by moulded pointed arched surrounds featuring nookshafts topped with foliage capitals and roundels in the tympani. These are also below a hoodmould with foliage stops and have projecting sills supported by paired moulded corbels. A single sash in a similar surround is positioned in the centre, with a moulded cornice above on paired and single foliage corbels.

The building is topped with stone copings on moulded kneelers, which are set on wide foliage corbels. There are also a pair of gabled attic dormers, each with paired sashes in Caernavon arched surrounds that include central shafts and blind ashlar quatrefoils in the gables. The dormers feature stone copings on moulded kneelers and slated cheeks.
