Description

6A The College is a house with medieval origins that has undergone alterations in the 18th century. It is built from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with a new brick chimney. The building stands three storeys high and has three windows. To the right of the first bay, there is a six-panel door with a four-pane overlight, while to the left is a plain boarded door with a two-pane overlight. A sash window with glazing bars is located to the right of the door, and there is a lintel band at the ground floor. The upper floors have sashes with glazing bars, most of which have been renewed, and these windows feature flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The low parapet has flat stone coping, and there is a clasping buttress with one offset on the left side.

Inside, there is a reused staircase from Abbey Cottage on Dun Cow Lane, dating to around 1670. The treads and risers are new, as are the newel caps and some other components. The staircase has a high grip handrail and thick twisted balusters. The newels, pulvinated string, and handrail friezes are decorated with rinceau patterns that include some figures and ribbon bands.
