Description

3 South Parade is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some later additions from the 19th century. The building features painted ashlar, stucco, and brick with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. It has a central hallway plan and stands two storeys high with three main bays, flanked by slightly recessed two-storey bays. The central three bays are made of ashlar, while the left bay is rendered and the right bay is painted brick.

There is a plinth and rusticated quoins on the central three bays. Access is via two steps leading up to a Tuscan porch, which has a plain frieze and a moulded pediment above a six-panel door that is raised and fielded, complete with a traceried fanlight and moulded imposts. On either side of the porch are bow windows featuring tripartite plate glass sashes, projecting stone sills, moulded cornices, and leaded roofs. The flanking bays have plate glass sashes with projecting sills and wide first-floor boards, with the right bay also containing a panelled door.

Above, there are three flush frame plate glass sashes with projecting sills; the central sash is set in a wide segment-headed recess with a voussoired arch, while the side sashes are below cambered arches, all adorned with moulded timber architraves. The side bays have similar windows to those on the ground floor, each with blind balustraded panels below on a continuous moulded plinth and topped with continuous moulded coping. The left bay has plain coping, while the right bay features moulded coping. The central three bays are capped with a moulded cornice and parapets that have three panels of blind balustrading topped by moulded coping. The roof is hipped with yellow brick end stacks.

Inside, there is an open well staircase that spans three flights, featuring a moulded mahogany handrail and turned balusters with circular knobs. The ground floor front rooms include raised and fielded panelled doors, reeded cornices, and bead panelled window shutters.
