Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now used as offices, situated on the south side of South Parade in Doncaster. The building is stuccoed with painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. It comprises three bays and two storeys, plus an attic storey and a basement. The basement has stone steps leading up to it and sash windows to the side bays. An attached set of railings runs along the front, featuring spear-head finials to the plain bars and a central frieze of lozenges.

The front elevation has steps leading to a central Venetian-style doorcase, with a six-panelled door beneath a stiled, semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars. Flanking the doorcase are engaged Tuscan columns and pilasters that support short sections of entablature; a moulded architrave frames the central arch, with blind panels set between the columns and pilasters. The ground floor windows are in blind, semi-circular headed recesses. Venetian windows with unequally hung sashes and glazing bars are located either side of the doorcase, with pilasters carrying entablatures above. The first floor has three tall sash windows with 12 panes each, set beneath a continuous sill band. An entablature with a wide cornice runs above the first floor. The attic storey features three six-pane, segment-headed sashes, each set within a wide, segment-headed recess with large double keystones and rusticated stonework on either side. An eaves band is present, and the roof is hipped with rendered end stacks.

The interior retains a dentilled cornice and a cornical doorcase on the ground floor; otherwise, it has been altered. The building was originally listed in 1950 as Mill House School. It stands as a pair with Number 1 South Parade.
