Description

This milestone, dated 1736, is located approximately 200 metres east of the roundabout at the junction with the A629. It is a stone monolithic post with a crudely-rounded top and flat faces. The south side features partly-obliterated, serifed lettering that reads "Barnsley/1736". The east side is illegible, while the south side also includes the inscription "(Pe) nist o(ne)". The west side is also illegible. The milestone was repositioned about 2 metres when the carriageway was realigned around 1980.
