Description

This pair of raised graveslabs dates from the late 17th century and is located approximately 4 metres southwest of the tower of the Church of All Saints in Denton. They are made of sandstone and are positioned side by side, featuring a simple incised line surround and stylised winged heads in the top corners.

The left slab commemorates John Denton Senior of Broadroyd Head, a yeoman, and his wife Anna, who died in 1688, while he passed away in 1704. It also mentions Joanna, the wife of John Denton, tenant of Birthwaite, who died in 1711.

The right slab is dedicated to Sarah, the wife of John Denton Junior of Broadroyd Read, who died in 1693, and Nathan, their son, who died in 1695. This slab also includes other family members who passed away from the early 18th century to 1755.
