Description

This is a range of barns and farm buildings located on the roadside opposite numbers 55 and 57 in Darton. They date from the mid-18th century, with a slightly later addition. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared stone with quoins and feature a stone slate roof, forming an L-shape.

The longer section of the barn, which runs at a 90-degree angle to the road, consists of two parts. The left part has a large altered opening on the left side and two animal doors on the right, one of which is blocked. It also includes three windows positioned at a high level. The right part features a central window and a later cart entrance to the right. The shorter range runs parallel to the road and has opposing cart entrances. Both ranges are topped with gable copings on moulded kneelers. The rear of the long range includes square pitching holes at a high level.

Inside, the barns have principal rafter trusses with collars.
