Description

The barn and adjoining range at Wool Greaves Farm date from the 17th century, with the adjoining range having undergone alterations. The structures are built of thinly-coursed rubble with quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The barn has four internal bays and includes a central square-headed cart entry with quoined jambs and an oak lintel, above which is a gabled two-tier dovecot. The barn has oak doors that are set back, and mistal doors are located in the side walls of the porch. There is a continuous outshut on each side, and the rear has an outshut to the left and an opposed square-headed cart entry.

The adjoining range has been significantly altered and features various openings, including a central cart entrance and two double-chamfered pitching holes or windows on the upper floor. A stone stair leads to a doorway at the right end, while the rear has also been altered, containing a blocked opposed cart entry and various modified or later openings.

Inside the barn, there are three large king post trusses with struts that are straight braced to the ridge and supported by massive tie-beams. The trusses beside the door have additional brick supports at the front, and the left truss is supported on an arcade post with an aisle tie in the outshut, which contains two house stalls and two cattle stalls. The interior of the adjoining range features four large principal rafter trusses with struts, with one in the center having particularly large struts. Two of the trusses have been infilled later with studs and wattle.
