Description

This is an L-shaped range of barns located on the north side of the yard at Bull Haw Farm. The barns are believed to have timber framing from the 16th century, with some parts encased in the 17th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble with quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The larger, three-bay section includes a large square-headed cart entry on the left, which is now partially blocked, and two quoined animal doors with hoodmoulds on the right, one of which is blocked and the other partially blocked. There is a symmetrical arrangement of round-arched ventilation slits made from single blocks of stone. The shorter section of the range extends to the left and has similar ventilation slits along with a large square-headed cart entry on the left. There are later buildings on either side of the barns that are not of special interest.

Inside, the larger range has queen strut roof trusses supported by posts that are straight-braced to the tie-beams. The shorter range features at least one cruck truss with an upper collar, an intermediate collar, and a tie-beam. The barns were not fully inspected at the time of the survey.
