Mirrored pair of houses. c1800. Brick with painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attics. Wide pedimented gable facade of 4 bays, with storey band below 1st floor sill band. No.16 has sashes without glazing bars. No.14 has glazing bar sashes, and external louvred shutters on the ground and first floors. Each house has a sashed attic window with segmental head, and below the apex there is an oculus. The doorways, at the outer sides of the facade, have doorcases with fluted pilasters, frieze blocks with paterae, and dentilled open pediments. Both doors have 6 raised and fielded panels. No.16 has a plain semicircular overlight, and No.14 has a fanlight. Chimney on ridge. INTERIOR: not inspected. RCHM records No.14 retains staircase with slender turned balusters, and 2 original fireplaces. No.16 has C19 staircase with cast-iron balusters.
