Description
67 and 69 Monkgate are a pair of houses built between 1812 and 1814. They are constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high, with each house consisting of one bay. The ground-floor windows feature slightly bowed sashes divided into four vertical panes. The first-floor window of No.67, located on the left, is similar but wider and tripartite, while the right-hand window on the first floor is a glazing bar sash.
The central doorcases are paired and have reeded engaged columns, with recessed stone steps, panelled reveals, and fanlights. No.67 has a four-panel door, whereas No.69 has a door with six raised and fielded panels. A cornice hood is supported by console brackets. The gutter is mounted on timber brackets and includes a central lead downpipe and fluted hopper. There are chimneys located in front of the ridge on both the left and right sides. The interior has not been inspected. Notably, No.69 was the residence of the architect G.F. Jones in 1846 and 1851.
