Description

55 Monkgate is a house built around 1812, likely for John Mason. It is constructed of brick and features an interlocking red tile roof. The exterior is symmetrical, with two storeys and three bays. On the ground floor, there are brick bows with curved glazing bar sash windows topped with flat lead roofs. The first floor has sash windows with painted rusticated lintels. The doorcase includes fluted pilasters, frieze blocks with a diagonal pattern, and a rectangular overlight with margin panes and crossed glazing bars. The door itself has six raised and fielded panels. The timber gutter is supported by paired rectangular brackets, and there are gable chimneys. The interior has not been inspected.
