Description
54, 56 and 58 Monkgate is a row of three houses built around 1840. They are constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys above cellars, with each house having one bay. The windows feature brick flat arches and are mostly sashed with glazing bars, except for the first-floor window of No. 58, which is also sashed. Each house has a doorway located to the right, which includes external stone steps, a timber pilaster doorcase, and a recessed four-panel door with an overlight that has diagonal glazing. No. 58 has a narrower doorway, and its lintel spans a carriage entrance, supported by a third pilaster on the far left. The guttering is held up by rectangular brackets, and there are chimneys situated between the houses. The interior has not been inspected.
