Description

This is a three-storey, two-bay house, built in 1828 and later altered in the late 20th century. Constructed of brick in Flemish bond, it has a slate roof. The upper-storey windows are glazing bar sashes with brick flat arches. The ground floor was rebuilt in the 20th century, replacing the original shopfront and Doric doorcase, as recorded in the Royal Commission for Historic Monuments. A brick-faced lintel spans between brick side piers and is supported by a central brick pier, with a vehicle entrance to the right and a recessed brick wall with a glazing bar sash window to the left. A timber cornice gutter is supported by paired rectangular brackets, and a shared lead rainwater hopper and downpipe are located at the left. A shared chimney is also on the left. The interior was not inspected. The building is included for group value, as an integral part of the streetscape on Monkgate.
