Description
Nos 34 and 35 Bedford Street are two houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick and topped with slate roofs, standing three storeys tall. The buildings have a double-pile plan and a rectangular shape with a shallow gabled roof. The facade features six windows, arranged in a slightly irregular pattern on the lower floors. The outer bays have two-storey canted bays, which are adorned with pilastered surrounds, moulded cornices, and cast iron balconettes on the first floor.
No. 34 has a central blind window on the first floor, while No. 35 has blind windows on both the first and second floors. The remaining windows are sashes with glazing bars, all set under gauged brick flat arches. The entrance to No. 34 is off-centre, featuring a four-panel door with a segmental-headed fanlight, flanked by pilasters that support a simply moulded entablature, and accessed by a flight of stone steps. The left-hand bay includes a pair of passageways with plank gates in broad wooden surrounds. No. 35 has a central doorway, also reached by stone steps, with a four-panel door flanked by narrow ribbed pilasters and topped with a semi-circular fanlight that has radiating glazing bars, all set within a gauged brick semi-circular arch.
