Description

SP 9433-9533 WOBURN BEDFORD STREET (West Side) 8/96 - Nos 34 and 35 GV II 2 houses. Early C19. Red brick with slate roofs. 3 storeys. Double-pile plan rectangular block with shallow gabled roof. 6-window facade, lower floors in slightly irregular arrangement. Outer bays have 2-storeyed canted bays. These have pilastered surrounds with moulded cornices, and cast iron anthemion balconettes to first floor. No. 34 has central blind window to first floor, No. 35 has central blind window to first and 2nd floors. All others are sashes with glazing bars. All sash and blind windows are under gauged brick flat arches. No. 34 has off-centre doorway. 4-panel door with segmental-headed fanlight, flanked by pilasters which support a simply moulded entablature, and reached by flight of stone steps. LH bay has pair of passageways, with plank gates in broad wooden surrounds. No. 35 has central doorway reached by stone steps. 4-panel door flanked by narrow ribbed pilasters and surmounted by semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. This is set in gauged brick semi-circular arch.
