Description

The Magpie Hotel is a hotel and public house that has undergone alterations from its original structure, which dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. It features vitrified bricks primarily laid in header bond, with red brick dressings. Some timber framing with colourwashed brick infill can be seen in the carriage arch. The building has a shallow pitched tile roof from the 20th century and a four-bay facade that rises three storeys, with the top storey appearing to be of a later date.

On the ground floor, there is a carriage arch on the left-hand side, a rectangular projecting bay window, a doorway leading to the third bay, and a tripartite sash window on the right-hand side. The first floor includes a tripartite sash window, a canted bay above a rectangular window, a blind window in the third bay, and a sash window on the right. The top storey features a blind window in the third bay and sash windows elsewhere. All windows are fitted with glazing bars and have gauged brick flat arches. The first-floor sashes are flush with the wall and have moulded frames. The entrance door consists of six flush panels and is set within a simply moulded architrave topped with a cornice hood. There is a rendered band at the first-floor level, and the building has one red brick ridge stack and one red brick gable end stack.
