Description
19 and 20 Bedford Street are two properties that share a single frontage. They date from the earlier 18th century but likely incorporate earlier structures. The buildings are constructed of red brick laid in English bond and feature a steeply pitched 20th-century tile roof. They are two storeys tall with attics. Each floor has six windows arranged irregularly, although three of the windows in No. 20 are evenly spaced. All windows are 2-light 19th-century casements with glazing bars set in reveals, with the ground floor windows also having top-lights and cambered heads. The attic includes four hipped dormers, each containing 2-light casements with glazing bars.
No. 19 has a doorway on the right-hand side with a six-panel door topped by a fanlight, set in cambered-headed reveals. No. 20 features an opening leading to a through passage, flanked by engaged Tuscan quarter columns that support a moulded cornice, all within a rusticated and segmental-headed surround. Both properties have high brick plinths, with the plinth of No. 20 rendered and painted. There is one red brick ridge stack and one red brick gable end stack.
