Description
No. 16 Bedford Street is a house from the early 18th century, which seems to enclose an earlier structure. It features a red brick front with a chequerwork pattern made of vitrified headers and has a 20th-century tile roof. The house has a two-room plan and is two storeys high with attics. The facade is symmetrical, with both the ground and first floors having two sashes with glazing bars in wide wooden cases that are almost flush with the wall. The first floor includes a blind central window, while the ground floor windows have gauged brick flat arches. In the attic, there are two box dormers that contain sashes with glazing bars. The central doorway features a six-panel door, which is approached by two steps and set within a simply moulded architrave topped with a flat cornice hood. There is a rendered plinth and a brick band at the first-floor level. In line with the doorway, there is a substantial multiple ridge stack, which appears to have been rebuilt in the 20th century.
