Description

This is a house dating from the 16th century, with subsequent alterations and additions in the 17th century and later periods. It is a substantial timber-framed structure, originally with red brick infill visible on the left-hand side. The front was later re-faced in brick, with the ground and first floors apparently refronted at different times; the upper floor has a slight jetty. The brickwork is colourwashed and includes mottled areas of vitrified bricks. The rear block is of less substantial timbering with brick infill, extended by a later 16th-century brick addition. The roof is covered in clay tiles.

The front of the building is a 2-bay, 2-storey and attic structure. The raised eaves level reflects the later refronting. The ground floor has two sash windows with heavy glazing bars and moulded surrounds. The first floor has two wider sash windows, also with glazing bars and moulded surrounds. A 6-panel door, the top pair glazed, is set within a moulded architrave and a flat hood supported by cut brackets. A large red brick chimney stack serves a back-to-back hearth. Inside, the ground floor contains 18th-century panelling, and the staircase features paired turned balusters.
