Description
Number 4 is a house built around 1825, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It was constructed by Thomas Bell and William Bellerby. The building is made of brick with some stone detailing and has a pantiled roof.
The house has three storeys plus an attic and features three bays. The upper storey windows are glazing bar sashes with rusticated stone lintels. On the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century bay windows beneath a continuous slate roof that creates an open porch. The left bay has two sash windows without glazing bars, each with segmental heads, while the right bay has three similar windows. A small flat-roofed dormer lights the attic on the left side. The main doorway has a segmental head with an overlight and a door made up of six raised and fielded panels. A mutuled timber gutter cornice is present, and there is a lead rainwater hopper and downpipe on the right, which is shared with Number 2, a building of the same style. The left gable features a chimney, and there is a shared chimney on the right.
The interior has not been inspected. The garden front wall is made of brick with stone copings and is topped with iron railings that have cast finials. These railings return on the right side to form the boundary with the garden of Number 2. The front railings include two gates with turned cast-iron gateposts that have ball finials.
