Description

Shrublands is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of yellow and brown brick and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has a square plan with a central entrance hall on the west front, two rooms on either side, and a two-room wing to the rear right that includes a side entrance hall and an outshut containing the stair hall. The house is two storeys high and features three symmetrical bays.

At the front, there is a plinth and a painted ashlar Tuscan porch with half-columns, a flat hood, and a blocking course above a panelled door that is topped with a moulded cornice and a plain overlight in the reveal. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in reveals with sills and channelled and keyed cambered wedge lintels. The eaves board is plain, and the roof is hipped. There is an axial stack on the left and an end stack on the right. The right return has similar windows and a 20th-century panelled door.

On the left return, there is a tall round-headed stair window with Gothick glazing beneath a keyed arch with raised imposts. Inside, the house features an open well staircase with a ramped handrail, column balusters, and a turned newel. The halls have round-arched openings with scrolled brackets, and the main rooms are adorned with moulded cornices.
