Description

Elmtree House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick, with pebbledashed sections, and has a Welsh slate roof. It is arranged in a "1" shape, with a two-room central entrance hall facing north, and a two-room wing to the rear right. The building is two storeys high, with an attic, and has an original symmetrical three-bay facade. The main entrance features a six-panel door with an overlight, set within a panelled surround and a 19th-century doorcase. This doorcase has scrolled consoles supporting a modillioned pediment. Original four-pane sash windows are set in slightly recessed architraves, with sills and keyed flat arches. A three-course brick band runs along the first floor. The roof has stepped eaves, stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers, and corniced end stacks. Inside the house, an original open well staircase has a ramped and wreathed handrail, column-on-vase balusters with square knops, a column newel, and scrolled brackets. The ground-floor front rooms have moulded cornices, with that on the left featuring a moulded plasterwork border to the ceiling.
