Description
Cotness Hall is a house dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond and features a French tile roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a central entrance on the south side. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance consists of a six-panel door set beneath a blocked overlight, all within a plain stone frame. This door is flanked by narrow eight-pane replacement casements, with 16-pane replacement casements in the outer bays. On the first floor, there are 16-pane replacement casements as well. The windows are topped with segmental arches, and the eaves are dentilled. The roof is hipped and has end stacks. Inside, there is an open-string staircase featuring turned balusters, carved tread ends, and a ramped handrail. Some original six-fielded-panel doors are still present on the ground floor.
