SE 72 SE KILPIN SANDHALL PARK

13/50 Sand Hall 16.12.66 (formerly listed as Manor House, Sandhall) - II Country house. 1777 on datestone for John Scolefield, with addition to east front of 1870-72 by J M Teale of Doncaster, front and back porches of 1889 and bay windows of 1895 and alterations of 1908-9 by Benjamin Jacobs of Hull. Brick in Flemish bond, Welsh slate roof. Central-hallway entry with service wing to rear. South facade: 3 storeys, 7 bays arranged 3:1:3 with central bay breaking forward slightly. Single-storey, single-bay extension known as front porch to left and narrow 2-storey, single-bay extension to right. Steps to C19 pedimented glazed porch containing 6-fielded-panel door with glazed upper panels and overlight in keyed doorcase profusely decorated with fluting and paterae. Consoles support dentilled pediment containing datestone inscribed JS. Bays 3 and 5 have plate-glass sashes beneath keyed 1777 flat brick arches. Outer bay have canted bay windows with plate-glass sashes beneath keyed stone lintels. Front porch: board door and plate-glass sash, with roof hipped to left. Extension to right: narrow plate-glass sash and dentilled band above. First floor: central plate-glass sash in keyed, eared architrave with dentilled hood flanked by plate-glass sashes beneath flat brick keyed arches. Extension to right: narrow plate-glass sash. Second floor: central round-headed window with imposts and keystone flanked by squat plate-glass sashes beneath flat, keyed stucco arches. Dentilled eaves course and hipped roof with stacks to rear. East front: 3 storeys, 7 bays arranged 2:3:2 with advanced central section bowed to ground and first floors, projecting added outer bays to ground and first floors. Central section: plate-glass sashes on continuous sill band to ground and first floor. Left bays blind, right bays with plate-glass sashes. All openings beneath flat brick arches, dentilled first-floor and eaves band. Hipped roofs to outer bays. Second floor: tripartite segmental-arched window with plate-glass sashes to central section and squat sash to right. Central dentilled pediment. Hipped roofs to outer sections. Interior: fluted arch in hallway. Open string staircase with column-on-vase square knop balusters, carved tread ends and ramped handrail.
