Description

This gravestone, dating from 1768, is located approximately 25 metres north of the north porch of the Church of St Helen in Barmby-on-the-Marsh. It is made of ashlar and stands about 1.3 metres tall and 0.75 metres wide. The upper edge is carved, and there is an incised inscription beneath a round arch that features a keystone and imposts. The inscription reads:

'Here lieth below this stone interr'd the body of the Revd Mr William Burges MA late Vic of Wressle and Curate of this place who died August the In 23rd 1768 Aged 66 Years. Hoc Signo Vinces O grave where is thy Victory?'
