Description
This headstone, located approximately 2 yards south of the Church of St. Bartholomew in Whittingham Village, dates from the early to mid-18th century. It is made of sandstone and features an elaborate rustic Baroque design, standing about 3 feet high. The top is adorned with a scrolled pediment that frames an angel. Below this, there is a pulvinated frieze and a raised concave panel for an inscription, which is framed by curved pilasters. The reverse side of the headstone also displays an equally elaborate memento mori. The inscription on the headstone is worn and difficult to read.
