Description
The Post Office, located at No 5 and No 7 on the south side of West End in Swanland, is a single house built in 1721, as indicated by the datestone, with later alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and five bays. The main entrance consists of a door with six raised and fielded panels, topped with an overlight that has Chippendale glazing. This door is flanked on both sides by sash windows with glazing bars and boarded shutters. To the left of the main entrance is a 20th-century glazed and panelled door, which may have replaced a service door, and above it is the datestone reading "I L 1721." On the far left side, there is a 12-pane fixed window.
On the first floor, there are three small 16-pane sash windows, also with boarded shutters. The building features coved eaves, end and axial stacks, and a raised gable on brick kneelers to the right. In front of the house, there is a large glacial erratic stone, one of three located in this position on Main Street. This stone may have been used as a mounting block, similar to one of the other stones nearby.
