Description
This is a mid-18th century house, later altered, located on the north side of Main Street in Bubwith. The building is constructed of dark red brick in English bond and has a pantile roof. It follows a three-cell plan and stands two storeys high with four windows on the first floor. Dark red brick quoins are visible. The main entrance is a four-panel door with an overlight, flanked by replacement four-pane sash windows in openings that have been recently restored to their original size, featuring unsympathetic soldier arches. A bay window was added in the 20th century to the right. A three-course first-floor band runs along the building. The first-floor windows consist of four-pane sashes set below gauged brick flat arches. A dentilled eaves course is present. A stack is located at the left end of the building, and a ridge stack stands between the third and fourth bays. Inside No. 43, a closed-string dogleg staircase is present, featuring turned balusters with central square knops. Original cupboard doors with H-L hinges are also visible.
