Description
The K8 telephone kiosk, designed by Bruce Martin and introduced in 1968, is located on the south side of Main Street, near the Congregational Chapel built in 1804 and its attached screen walls and Sunday Schools from around 1840, as well as the village pond and mid-19th century Mere House with its garden wall, Mere Cottage, and the garden wall of 3 and 5 Main Street.
This kiosk features a square plan and is set on a concrete base. It is constructed from six cast iron parts and has an aluminium door. Three sides of the kiosk, including the door, are fitted with large sheets of toughened glass in rectangular frames with rounded corners. The rear panel has a blind rectangular frame with rounded corners, below which is an attached cast iron plaque that reads CARRON / COMPANY in relief letters. The flat roof dome has rectangular framed signage panes with rounded corners, each glazed with toughened glass and displaying the word TELEPHONE on a white background. The kiosk is painted cream.
