Description
The Congregational Chapel, along with its attached screen walls and Sunday Schools, was built in 1804, with porches and schools added around 1840. The building is constructed of grey brick and features Welsh slate roofs. The chapel is two storeys high and has five bays. The central bay showcases a Venetian window with glazing bars and radial glazing, flanked by projecting brick gabled porches that have doors made of six raised and fielded panels, complete with overlights beneath cambered wedge lintels that feature projecting keyblocks. The end bays contain 16-pane sash windows with radial glazing set under round brick arches. On the first floor, there is a smaller central Venetian window similar to the one below, with 9-pane sash windows on either side, all set in moulded architraves with sills. The roof is hipped. The screen walls each have a panelled and glazed door with an overlight under a cambered wedge lintel, also featuring raised keyblocks. To the right and left of the screen walls are gabled single-storey wings, each containing two 2-light pointed windows with glazing bars, and adorned with ornamental barge boards.
