Description

This building consists of four houses located at 276 to 282 New Chester Road, constructed between 1896 and 1899 by architect William Owen. The houses are made of brick with a plaster first floor and feature hipped tile roofs. They are one storey with an attic and have four bays, with the fourth bay set back by one bay. The ground floor has a cornice, while the first floor displays diapering, and the gables are topped with brick copings.

The paired windows are adorned with gauged-brick cambered arches and 2-light leaded casements. The first floor includes half dormers with brick quoins and sills. The first bay features a diapered frieze at the parapet, while the other bays have gabled dormers, with the second and third bays showcasing diapering on their gables. The fourth bay has a diapered frieze and a drip mould above.

The entrances are elliptical-headed and have four-panel doors with leaded lights. There are two cross-axial stacks, and the left and right returns have projecting lateral stacks with windows. The right return of the fourth bay includes a lateral stack with a gablet. Rainwater heads on the building are dated 1896. The rear of the building is similar, featuring flat-topped dormers and privies.
