Description
This building is a barn located to the east of Newton Park Farmhouse, dating from the 16th to early 17th century. It features a timber box frame with brick cladding added in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the west end has been rebuilt in brick. The barn has a corrugated iron roof and consists of seven bays, with a central threshing floor and entrances in gabled porches. The north side includes outshuts for cow houses. Inside, there are queen-post roof trusses with struts and through purlins. The north porch contains a loft, while the east end has an inserted floor and an added cow house. As of 1982, this barn is noted as the only known surviving example of this type of timber-framed structure in the historic County of Lancashire.
