Description

The barn located to the east of Grange Farm dates back to around 1550. It is constructed of brick on a stone base and features a stone slate roof. The barn consists of six bays, with the eastern end bay separated by a cross wall. On the south side, to the right of the third bay entrance, there is a four-bay projecting cow house that has a cat slide roof. The roof is supported by collar and strut trusses, with the southern ends resting on triangular buttresses and through purlins that include some wind braces.

The eastern end of the barn has an entrance flanked by battered buttresses, along with a pitching hole and several ventilation slits. On the north side, there is another entrance with cheeks and two large battered buttresses, leading to an outshut. Inside, there are niches for holy water stoups located in the buttresses flanking the south entrance, as well as two battered buttresses on the south wall. This barn was used as a Catholic chapel in the late 17th century.
