Description

INCE BLUNDELL GRANGE ROAD SD 20 SE (west side) 5/59 Barn to east 04.04.77 of Grange Farm (formerly listed II under Hightown) Barn. c.1550. Brick on stone base, stone slate roof. 6 bays, eastern end bay separated by cross wall. On south side, to right of 3rd bay entrance, a 4-bay projecting cow house under cat slide roof. Roof has collar and strut trusses, the southern ends resting on triangular buttresses, and through purlins with some wind braces. Eastern end has entrance between battered buttresses with pitching hole, some ventilation slits. To north, an entrance with cheeks and 2 large battered buttresses; end outshut. Interior has niches for holy water stoups in buttresses flanking south entrance and 2 battered buttresses to south wall. Used as Catholic chapel in late C17, q.v. Cross Barn, Cross Barn Lane.
