Description
The headstone and grave slab, located approximately 5 meters south of the nave of the Church of St Cuthbert, dates from around 1737 to 1740, with later alterations. It commemorates Elizabeth, the wife of William Meadow, and their son Richard, both of whom died in 1737, along with additional commemorations. The headstone is made of sandstone and features a rectangular slab with a shaped top. The inscription reads: "Here lyeth / Elizabeth wife of / Willm. Meadow and / Richard his son / was buryed ye 6th / of April 1737 / Mary wife of [illegible] / Meadow was buryed / May ye 4th 1754 / Jno Meadow died Sept / The 24th 1780 Ea 79." This headstone is part of a group that includes the Church of St Cuthbert, the Ball monument, and the Sutton monument.
