Description

A row of four houses, probably dating from the mid-19th century, with alterations. Numbers 56 to 62, Botanic Road, Southport, now comprise a shop and three houses. The construction is red brick in an English garden wall bond pattern (four brick courses plus one header course), topped with a graduated slate roof. The building follows a double-depth plan, with each house having a single front; the entrance to number 56 is located within the right-hand gable wall.

The exterior has two storeys and a three-window arrangement. The ground floor of numbers 56, 58, and 60 each feature a three-light sliding sash window. Numbers 58 and 60 have segmental-headed doorways to the left, while number 62 has a shop front with terminal pilasters and a plain fascia, alongside a large two-light window and a doorway to the left. The first floor has smaller three-light sliding sash windows in numbers 58, 60, and 62. Three corniced ridge chimneys are present. The interior was not inspected. The building forms a group with numbers 68-86 opposite.
