Description
The Third Church of Christ Scientist, originally built as the Temple of Humanity, is a Christian Science church constructed in 1914 by W.H. Ansell. It features a brick exterior with patterned tiles. The church has a five-bay nave with passage aisles, a chancel that includes a canted apse, and a projecting organ loft to the left of the chancel. The aisles are supported by swept flying buttresses and have Diocletian windows in the clerestories. A projecting porch on the south side includes a gable and a round-headed entrance. The apse contains a niche with a segmental open pediment and an iron grille, while the gable is adorned with a pediment flanked by swept parapets. Inside, the church has arcades with segmental arches, and the aisles feature niches. The chancel includes a low wall, an elliptical apse, and a baldachino supported by Byzantine columns. The nave is currently divided by a partition, and both the nave and chancel ceilings are situated below the clerestory level.
