Description

49 and 49A Hope Street is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is built of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building stands three storeys high with a basement and features four bays, with three bays facing Canning Street. There is a stone lintel band at the basement level and a first-floor sill course at the fourth bay and the Canning Street facade. The top of the building has a frieze, cornice, and blocking course.

The first two bays project outwards, with the second bay being bowed. The windows have wedge lintels and are sashed with glazing bars. The entrance in the third bay projects and is adorned with architraves, angle pilasters, and a cornice. It includes a complete fanlight and a four-panel door, along with plain iron area railings. The return side facing Canning Street has two blind windows on the first and second floors, while the ground floor features casement windows. The entrance to No. 49A is distinguished by Ionic columns and an entablature.
