HOPE STREET (east side) L1 Nos. 49 and 49A

II House. Early C19. Brick with stone dressings, slate roof. Three storeys with basement, four bays, three bays to Canning Street. Stone lintel band to basement, first floor sill course to fourth bay and Canning Street facade. Top frieze, cornice and blocking course. First two bays project; the second bay is bowed. Windows have wedge lintels and are sashed with glazing bars. Third bay entrance projects and has architraves, angle pilasters and cornice. Complete fanlight and four-panel door. Plain iron area railings. Return to Canning Street has two blind windows to first and second floors. Casements to ground floor windows. Entrance to No. 49A has Ionic columns and entablature.
